#RadChat: Radical Practice 101
November 6, 2025
7:00pm Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Organized by the Social Welfare Action Alliance (SWAA)
(This event will not be recorded)
Are you radical curious?
Do you want ideas about how to be radical in your 9 to 5?
Do you want to hang out with other radical social workers?
In this #RadChat we will offer a critique of “professionalism;” discuss how social work has been a tool to maintain the status quo; and explore ways we can be radical when working in traditional settings.
SWAA National Steering Committee Co-Hosts:
Rosemary (Rosi) Barbera (she/her) is a social worker committed to radical social change and the end of capitalism and all forms of oppression. She has worked in Chile and Bolivia doing human rights work. In the US she has worked on human rights issues, including the human rights of immigrants. She is also a social work educator.
Heather Gomez (she/her) is a mezzo-level practitioner and educator. She obtained her DSW from Tulane University with a focus on patient-provider communication amongst Black and Latinx patients with multiple sclerosis. Heather is deeply committed to servant leadership and infusing radical practice into day-to-day social work.
SWAA is funded only through memberships. These help us to maintain our website and Zoom accounts and offer honorariums to webinar hosts.
